National Coalition Against Censorship or NCAC is a non-profit organization against censorship and banning of literature, offering assistance to anyone faced with censorship problems. The organization’s slogan, “Promoting freedom of thought, inquiry, and expression and opposing censorship in all its forms” is extremely powerful and promotes the freedom of choice. This NCAC is composed of over 50 groups, all against censorship and offers several programs to fight the banning and censorship of books. The “Kid’s Right to Read Project” and “The Free Expression Policy Project” are just a couple of projects the National Coalition Against Censorship supports and has designed to encourage others to fight censorship. The NCAC supports and hosts many events, all designed to educate the public on what censorship is and ways to fight censorship. This organization offers resources to anyone seeking help related to censorship. During Banned Books Week, the NCAC organized a “Banned Books Readout” at a book fair in New York. They setup a tent where people could come and read from their favorite banned novels and created a website designed for those who could not attend the event, and instead, people could post videos of themselves reading from their favorite banned book. The NCAC offers information on the latest news pertaining to censorship including censorship in the media and literature.
The National Coalition Against Censorship’s sole purpose is to fight censorship and provide support for individuals wanting to fight censorship, whether they have a specific issue or are simply supporting the fight against censorship.
