What is Censorship?
Censorship is the banning or censoring of a specific material. Books containing controversial material or ideas such as race, religion, sexual content, or inappropriate language are challenged and banned by groups of people disagreeing with the message conveyed in novels. |
My Position:
I completely disagree with the censorship and banning of literature. I believe in the freedom to make our own decisions and have the choice to decide what books we read. Every individual has the right to their own beliefs and values so why limit somebody to their choice of literature? Just because somebody is offended by controversial topics in a novel, doesn’t mean I find that same material to be offensive. I want the right to read any book I choose without being judged by others due to the content of the novel. We all have the right to choose what we read, if you disagree or find a book’s content offensive, don’t read the book, but don’t take that choice away from everyone. I strongly disagree with the banning and censorship of novels, but I believe in having a choice of what I read. |
